The word Aqidah derives its origin from “aqd” meaning binding or tying something. Aqa’id are the underpinnings of faith that are beyond any shadow of doubt and are in harmony with the heart and mind. The right doctrine is the very foundation upon which the edifice of faith is erected, its soundness determines and directs the action of man. To be called a Muslim, one has to keep unquestioning faith in the Oneness of Allah, Prophethood, angels, the Divine books, the Day of Resurrection and the destiny. These doctrines are dubbed as the pillars of faith.
